THE LOWDOWN — THE FULL HISTORY
THE RECORD
No club has spent more seasons in England's top flight than Everton, founder members in 1888 with nine league titles. In 1928 Dixie Dean scored 60 league goals in 39 games. Almost a century later, nobody has come close.
THE LOST TEAM
Howard Kendall's 1985 side were champions of England and winners in Europe. After the Heysel disaster English clubs were banned from Europe, so that team never got its European Cup night, even after winning the title again in 1987. Since then there has been one trophy, the 1995 FA Cup, and later a season with eight points deducted.
GOODISON
The People's Club played at Goodison Park for 133 years. On its final day Iliman Ndiaye scored both goals in a 2-0 win.
THE NEW HOUSE
The Hill Dickinson Stadium holds 52,000 on the Mersey. Branthwaite signed to 2030, Pickford stayed and Moyes is back. The motto, Nil Satis Nisi Optimum, means nothing but the best is good enough. Number 13 in THE COUNTDOWN.
