THE LOWDOWN — THE FULL HISTORY
THE LAST CHAMPIONS
Leeds United won the English title in 1992. The next season the Premier League began, so that crown was never played for again. Technically, they have been champions for 34 years.
ONE INCH FROM GLORY
Under Don Revie they finished second five times. In the 1975 European Cup final in Paris a goal was disallowed and Bayern won; fans still sing "Champions of Europe". Brian Clough lasted 44 days as Revie's replacement. After the 1992 title, Leeds sold Eric Cantona to Manchester United for less than £2m.
THE FALL
A Champions League semi-final in 2001 was followed by League One by 2007, starting on minus 15 points. Under Bielsa they came back with 100 points.
NOW
In 2025-26 Leeds finished 14th, reached their first FA Cup semi-final in 39 years and spent a record £40m on a goalkeeper. Red Bull own a stake, and Elland Road is being rebuilt to 53,000 seats by 2030. Number 14 in THE COUNTDOWN.
