THE LOWDOWN — THE FULL HISTORY

THE FINAL

Rome, 1934. Italy against Czechoslovakia in the World Cup final, deep into extra time, in forty-degree heat, with the score level at 1–1.

THE GOAL

Italy's manager Vittorio Pozzo had switched two of his forwards, Schiavio and Guaita. Giuseppe Meazza found Guaita, Guaita found Schiavio, and Angelo Schiavio went past two defenders and beat goalkeeper František Plánička. 2–1.

THE LAST BREATH

Schiavio said afterwards that he scored it on the last breath he had. Italy were champions of the world. The full story of 1934 is told in EP03 of The World Cup Universe.
