THE LOWDOWN — THE FULL HISTORY

MUNICH

6 February 1958. Manchester United's plane crashed on takeoff at Munich. 23 people died, eight of them United players: the Busby Babes.

THE KEEPER

Goalkeeper Harry Gregg survived. Before the rescue services arrived, he ran back into the burning wreckage three times, pulling out a pregnant woman, her baby and several other passengers.

THE WORLD CUP

Four months later Gregg kept goal for Northern Ireland at the 1958 World Cup and was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament. His story is part of EP07 of The World Cup Universe, The Boy in Blue.
