THE LOWDOWN β THE FULL HISTORY
THE RECORD
At the 1974 World Cup, Italy's Dino Zoff, then the best goalkeeper in the world, had gone 1,174 minutes without conceding, a world record.
THE GOAL
Haiti were at their first World Cup. Just after half-time Emmanuel Sanon ran in behind and beat Zoff to make it 1-0, ending the record. Italy recovered to win 3-1.
THE SHADOW
Days later a Haitian player failed a drug test and, according to those who were there, the Duvalier regime made sure he never spoke of it.
THE LEGACY
Sanon remains the only Haitian to score at a World Cup. Fifty-two years on, Haiti are back.
