THE LOWDOWN — THE FULL HISTORY
THE RECORD
Neymar has scored more goals for Brazil than Pelé, more than anyone in the country's history, but he has never won the World Cup.
THE HEARTBREAK
In 2014 a back injury ruled him out and he watched the 7-1 from the sidelines. In 2022 he scored and Brazil went out on penalties before he could take his. A torn knee then cost him nearly three years.
THE RETURN
At 34 he walked back onto a World Cup pitch for his fourth tournament, something only Pelé, Djalma Santos and Cafu have done for Brazil. It is almost certainly his last, for a nation that has not won the trophy in 24 years.
THE QUESTION
The unluckiest genius the game has seen, or its biggest 'what if'?
