THE LOWDOWN — THE FULL HISTORY
THE DEBUT
Jordan Henderson, born in Sunderland, made his professional debut for his hometown club on 1 November 2008, a 5-0 defeat away at Chelsea. He scored his first senior goal on loan at Coventry in 2009.
LIVERPOOL
He joined Liverpool in 2011 and became captain in June 2015 after Gerrard left. In 492 appearances over twelve years he won the Champions League in 2018-19 and, in 2019-20, Liverpool's first league title in 30 years, the same season he was named FWA Footballer of the Year. All eight of his trophies came at Liverpool.
THE ROAD
He moved to Al-Ettifaq in 2023, reuniting with Steven Gerrard, then left after six months without a goal. Next came 57 appearances and one goal at Ajax, then one season at Brentford.
THE LOOP
In August 2026 Chelsea signed him on a two-year contract, aged 36, under Xabi Alonso: eighteen years after his debut at Stamford Bridge. Career: seven clubs, 694 appearances, 41 goals and seven major tournaments, the first English player to reach seven.
