THE LOWDOWN — THE FULL HISTORY
THE DUEL
Norway v France decided the group and put Erling Haaland against Kylian Mbappé, both on four goals at the World Cup and both chasing Messi in the Golden Boot race.
MBAPPÉ — A World Cup winner at 19 and scorer of a hat-trick in the final at 23.
HAALAND
One of the most lethal strikers in the world, but 2026 was the first World Cup of his career. Norway had not qualified since 1998, and until that summer he had watched from home.
THE QUESTION
One of them would top the group. Haaland or Mbappé: who is the best striker on earth?
