Inter Milan: Brothers of the World | FOUNDED 06

REEL · ENTRY OF 172 · ARCHIVE OF RECORD

The only club ever founded because of who WASN'T allowed to play — a group of rebels walked out of AC Milan over a fight about foreigners, and wrote their answer straight into the club's name.

THE DESK — NOTES & REMARKS

Sixth entry in the FOUNDED series, companion film to AC Milan's “The English Devil.” Every fact S0-verified against the certified script — no stats or dates added beyond what the order itself carried.

THE LOWDOWN — THE FULL HISTORY

THE WALKOUT

Milan, 9th March 1908. Behind the cathedral, inside the Ristorante Orologio, a group of rebels walked out of AC Milan — and football was never the same in that city again.

THE ARGUMENT

The split wasn't about money, trophies, or power. It was about foreigners. AC Milan had been built by English and Italian men together, and when Italian football moved to shut foreign players out, a group inside the club refused to accept it. The dispute grew so bitter it tore the club in two.

THE NAME

The dissidents met one final time and wrote their reason straight into the club itself: “It will be called Internazionale… because we are brothers of the world.” Not a nickname added later — the entire club is named after an argument about who should be allowed to play.

THE IDENTITY

Before they left the restaurant that night, artist Giorgio Muggiani had already drawn it: black for the night, blue for the sky, gold for the stars, FCIM woven into one mark. A name, colours, crest and purpose, created in a single evening. 44 names on the founding document.

THE REBELLION'S FIRST TROPHY

Two years later, Inter won their first Scudetto through a playoff against Pro Vercelli so controversial the champions sent out their youth team in protest. Even Inter's first trophy begins with a rebellion.

THE ANSWER

Milan began with an Englishman. Inter began by insisting nationality should never close football's door. One city, one club split into two, and more than a century of bad blood born from a single question: who does football belong to? Inter's answer was in the name. Everyone.
