THE LOWDOWN — THE FULL HISTORY
THE ADVERT
22 October 1899: a notice in the sports weekly Los Deportes invited anyone keen on football to call at the office, Tuesday or Friday night. It printed Hans Gamper's name as "Kans Kamper".
THE GYM
29 November 1899: twelve men met at the Gimnasio Solé and founded Football Club Barcelona.
THE COLOURS
Blue and claret from the start; their origin is disputed.
THE RESCUE
Their first opponents beat them 1–0, then joined them. By 1908 only 38 members remained, and Gamper took the presidency to save the club. Hans became Joan. Since 1966, Barça's pre-season trophy has carried his name.
