THE LOWDOWN — THE FULL HISTORY
THE STORY
Episode 9 of The World Cup Universe tells the story of England's only World Cup win: 1966, on home soil.
THE ROAD
The film follows the build-up, the hosts and a waiting nation, then the group stage and the knockouts.
THE FINAL
England beat West Germany at Wembley. Geoff Hurst scored a hat-trick, still the only one in a World Cup final, including the goal that may or may not have crossed the line. Bobby Moore lifted the Jules Rimet trophy, and Kenneth Wolstenholme said: 'They think it's all over… it is now.'
NEXT
The episode closes with the 1966 ledger and points to Mexico 1970. Sixty years on, the chase begins again.
