THE PREMISE

THE NEW FIVE
Enzo Maresca follows Guardiola at Manchester City after six titles in ten years. Xabi Alonso, unbeaten in a domestic double at Leverkusen, takes his first job in England at Chelsea. Iraola replaces Slot at Liverpool. Carrick, interim from January, won 11 of 16, finished third and was made permanent at Manchester United. De Zerbi, appointed with Spurs in relegation danger, has spent more than £200m so far and says he is not done.
THE CONSTANT
Arteta, appointed in December 2019, starts his seventh season with Arsenal as champions. They missed out on Morgan Rogers to Chelsea and were in advanced talks for Bruno Guimarães, not complete.
THE POINT
Everyone else spends September teaching a new manager's ideas. Arsenal add to a team that already knows them. The season opens on 21 August.
